Scope and Content of Collection
The William Nicholson collection documents his work as the appointments secretary for President Ford from 1974-1977. The collection includes personal notes and calendars, White House briefings, travel information, political reports, election information, and newspaper and magazine articles documenting Gerald R. Ford and his administration while in office.
Biography
William Nicholson was the appointments secretary under President Gerald R. Ford from 1974 until 1977. In 1984, Nicholson left the White House and was brought into the Amway Corporation by Jay Van Andel and Richard DeVos to help restructure the company. Nicholson was the Chief Operating Officer of Amway from 1984 until 1992. He then stepped down from his position as COO and started splitting his work between Amway and other private companies. Nicholson later sat on the Board of Advisors for the M. D. Anderson Cancer Institute and the Board of Directors for Colorado Prime, Inc. and Genmar, Inc.
