AbstractTheodore Victor Peticolas, born 29 Feb. 1800 in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, was a fruit farmer in Union Township, Clermont County, Ohio at the time he maintained this diary. In it Peticolas details his farm work, crops, family, neighbors, and social life during the year of 1863.

Scope and Content of Collection

In the diary Peticolas details his farm work, crops, family, neighbors, and social life. He also names the varieties of fruit grown on his farm. He maintains meticulous records of the weather, using a system of symbols and noting the temperature three times a day. The diary ends shortly after the death of his son.


Biography

Theodore Victor Peticolas, born 29 Feb. 1800 in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, was a fruit farmer in Union Township, Clermont County, Ohio at the time he maintained this diary. Peticolas' son Edward, by 1863, had been discharged from the 6th Ohio Infantry Regiment for a disability suffered in the War. Edward died on Christmas eve, 1863.
