Scope and Content of Collection

The Ella Koeze Weed collection documents the political career of Ella K. Weed, the Republican Party and the Michigan Constitutional Convention of 1961-1962. Documents include information from the Michigan Constitution Convention and the revision of the Constitution, Journals of the Constitution Convention, news clippings, conference notes from Koeze, notes from the Committee on Legislative Powers, the Official Records of the 1961 Michigan Constitution, proposals, and information on the Republican National Convention, information on Republican presidents and candidates from Eisenhower to Romney, photographs, and magazines.


Biography

Ella Koeze Weed was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan. She was involved in politics through the Republican Party. She was elected vice-chair of the Kent County Republican Committee and vice-chair of the Republican State Central Committee of Michigan. She was also elected to the Board of Directors of the National Republican Women's Federation and later became the President. Mrs. Weed served on the Board of Control of Grand Valley State College from 1967 to 1981.
