through

War
II
. He was a
platoon
sergeant
in the
5th
Infantry
Division
, and was
stationed
in
Iceland

England
and
Northern
Ireland
before
landing
in
France
after
D-Day
. He
saw
action
at
St
.
Lo
,
Metz
, and in the
counterattack
after
the
Battle
of the
Bulge
before
advancing
into
Germany
and
Czechoslovakia
. His
account
includes
descriptions
of
life
on
garrison
duty
in
Iceland
,
combat
in the
Norman
hedgerows
,
taking
German
prisoners
and
coming
upon
a
small
concentration
camp
shortly
after
it
was
liberated
.
